Bitcoin's share of total crypto market cap. Rises when BTC outperforms alts, falls during alt seasons.

Typical regimes

  • BTC.D rising + BTC price rising → BTC-led bull, alts lag.
  • BTC.D falling + BTC price sideways / up → classic altseason.
  • BTC.D rising + BTC price falling → bear market flight to «quality».
  • BTC.D falling + BTC price falling → capitulation in BTC first, alts next.

Notes

Modern BTC.D is distorted by the rise of stablecoins (USDT, USDC). Many analysts now track BTC.D excluding stables for a cleaner altseason read.
